Then and Now: How Has Life Changed?

🕰️ Imagine waking up and there is no television, no tablet and no Wi-Fi! Long ago, children your age lived like that every single day. Today we are going to be history detectives and find out how life has changed!

Ask a grown-up at home about their childhood. Those memories are called living memory. It means the changes happened recently enough that real people can remember them. That makes them a brilliant source for historians! 🔍

Homes have changed a lot. In the past, many homes had only one telephone fixed to the wall. Families shared one television and it showed only a few channels. Today most homes have lots of screens and everyone can have their own device. 📺

Toys have changed too! Your grandparents may have played with tin toys, marbles or dolls made of cloth. There were no plastic action figures or electronic toys. Children still had great fun, but the toys looked very different. 🪀

School has changed as well. Long ago, children sat in rows and were very quiet. They wrote with chalk on small slate boards. Teachers were very strict. Today classrooms have colourful displays, computers and group tables for talking together. 🏫
