Halves and Quarters

🍕 Imagine sharing a pizza with a friend. You want it to be fair! Today we are going to learn how to split things into equal parts. We call these parts halves and quarters. Let's go!

When something is all in one piece, we call it a whole. When we cut a whole into 2 equal parts, each part is called a half. Both parts must be exactly the same size. We write a half like this: 1/2.

Now let's go smaller! When we cut a whole into 4 equal parts, each part is called a quarter. All 4 parts must be exactly the same size. We write a quarter like this: 1/4. Four quarters make one whole.

We can also find halves and quarters of a group of objects. 🍓 Imagine 8 strawberries. To find half, share them into 2 equal groups. Each group has 4. So half of 8 is 4!

To find a quarter of a group, share into 4 equal groups. Try 8 strawberries again. Share into 4 equal groups — each group has 2. So a quarter of 8 is 2! 🎉
