Islands and Peninsulas

Our planet has lots of land surrounded by water. Some land is completely surrounded by water. We call that an island! 🏝️

Islands can be big or tiny. Australia is so big it is called a continent. Greenland is the world's largest island!

Some land is only partly surrounded by water. It is still connected to bigger land on one side. We call that a peninsula! 🗺️

The word peninsula means almost island. Three sides touch water, but one side connects to the land.

Islands and peninsulas are homes for many animals and people. The sea around them gives them fish to eat. 🐟

Why do people build bridges to islands? A bridge connects an island to the mainland so people can travel more easily!

Volcanic islands are made from underwater volcanoes! Lava builds up over many years until land pokes above the water. 🌋
